My passion for art started at an early age. I would often be found with crayons, markers, paper, and other craft materials in front of me. I loved creating rainbows and nature scenes.

I focused on art and humanities in my early years of education. After high school, I went to art school at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, where I graduated with a Fine Arts Degree.

My style of painting and my subject matter have always been a bit all over the place. Some themes in my work include the natural environment, trees, human and animal nature, philosophy, our minds, love, loss, hope, and gratitude. My work focuses on the deep emotional and spiritual realms of human existence in two-dimensional form.

Even though I work intentionally, from life, tradition, and innovation, I feel creatively at my best when I focus on a heart/mind to hand communication guided by the unconscious and the energies that be.

In my studio, you’ll find me listening to music or podcasts. I’m often sipping on herbal tea or bubble water, and bouncing back and forth between a couple of paintings at a time. I also take breaks to research concepts or symbolism, or read about philosophical or spiritual ideas for added inspiration.

I have received press ranging from National Public Radio and Minnesota Parent, to a feature in the Wall Street Journal. When not creating in the studio, I am with my family or working on environmental health and sustainability issues through our non-profit Earthology Institute, or building our Earthology Retreat Center, or co-managing and working as a live painter/performer with the band Cloud Cult.
